A podiatrist is a physician and surgeon who specializes in the medical and surgical care of the foot and ankle. After completing 4 years of graduate education at a college of podiatric medicine, a doctor of podiatric medicine (D.P.M.) degree is granted. This is followed by residency training. A D.P.M. is licensed to prescribe medicine and perform procedures like an M.D., but the scope of this license is restricted to the treatment of foot and ankle problems.

All foot and ankle pain and abnormalities are best evaluated by a podiatrist. So if you have any condition that involves your feet, start with a podiatrist. If the problem is caused by a systemic illness that needs evaluation and /or treatment by a medical doctor (M.D. or D.O.) or if it is outside the scope of practice, a podiatrist can refer you to another professional or coordinate with one as needed.

ALL diabetics should visit a podiatrist for an exam and receive education and the appropriate treatment because the feet are often affected by this disease.

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of tissue attached to the heel bone and often causes heel pain. There are many conservative, non-surgical treatments available to treat the problem.

There are some podiatrists who specialize in foot surgery, while their office staff provides nail, corn, and callus care (and appropriate padding). At our clinic, all foot care services are rendered by Dr. Trent, and he is always happy to see patients who need nail or corn and callus care.

Many patients are uninsured or have high deductibles and co-pays. Keeping this in mind, Dr. Trent has very reasonable fees for cash-paying patients.
